Plot[]
Sir Topham Hatt has sent Derek, the new diesel, to the works to be mended. Derek, though, is unsure if he will return to service again. A few months later, word comes through that Derek is to be sent back to the mainland. The mechanics try to find a way to make him stay, and much to their delight, a mainland diesel rolls through, struggling with his load. He soon grinds to a halt. Derek is told to inspect the situation. The inspector demand for an engine, but a workman suggests Derek. The inspector had no choice, so he went ahead with it. He towned the diesel away. Derek then set off for the yard. He then arrived at Gordon's hill, a great endeavour. He decided to take a rest and try again. Finally, Derek sailed down the other side of the hill. He finally arrived in Barrow, to his delight. He is then kept on the railway as a commuter, to his delight.
